I am basing this on my recent experience.

Most of the instructors are great! Though, some are stuck in their old ways and refuse to work with students. If you’re fresh and only working a part time job, you will do great things at SCC.

If you are a returning adult that works the standard 40 hours a week, SCC is probably not the best option. I am required to transfer to a different institution because a professor expects me to surrender my family’s income. Other than this, my experience has been great!

Best of luck to all students. You’ve got this!

It's a great school for transferring to USC upstate bachelors program. Cost is much more affordable, although getting an education is expensive regardless. All of my teachers have been great so far.., The financial aid office is usually very pleasant regardless of being hounded at the beginning of every semester. If you're looking for a certificate program they offer a plenty, and if you're looking to get an associates degree they offer that as well... if you were like me, wanting to pursue a bachelors degree program, this is a great place to get started (and I highly recommend taking as many classes as possible before you transfer to a university because they charge so many additional fees and they add up tremendously). Scc has been a money saver!!!

Book store had the doors locked with a little line of students there trying to pick up books before classes start on Monday, but no one wanted to acknowledge them standing out there. When tbey opened the doors, the manager wasn't real friendly and the other gentleman behind the counter was extremely rude. Not my first time being disappointed by this place.

My son took the Horticulture program there and loved it. His experience there was a decision well made. The instructors were great and were genuinely concerned about the students' progress in the program. He liked the instructors there and enjoyed the program enough that he made the best grades there that he did all through school. After proving himself by making good grades his first semester, he obtained scholarships through the Financial Aid office that helped us financially to get through the rest of his time there. He did a summer internship through the school program and the company asked him to stay on part time while he finished the remainder of the classes that he needed to graduate. He stayed with this company after graduating and worked his way up to manager in less than a year.

Non-Traditional Adult Student here. I’ve had a great experience at SCC so far. Staff have been helpful and personable from my instructors, financial aid office and support staff. I plan on doing my entire Associates Online and then transfer to a 4 year. With grants available this has been an excellent and extremely affordable option. I highly recommend to any type of student to consider SCC and just to go talk to staff to get more information, they were more then happy to help me every step of the way. Website and online tools needed to succeed are intuitive and there are SO MANY resources at your finger tips to help you succeed! I can’t stress just how many available options are at SCC to help students, you will get out of it what you put into it!

EDIT: 01/03/2023 - Graduated from SCC last May, got a majority of the next two years paid for at my next school. My advice is join PTK for the scholarships available at 4-year school’s for members, check to see other transfer scholarships are available to other schools based off of your GPA, and if you’re looking at going online, check to see if schools offer online tuition at the in state rate. Combine all that with good grades at SCC and you’ll be in great shape. I’m glad I went to SCC, it launched me on a trajectory of learning I didn’t think possible and opened doors to other opportunities. Best and easiest decision I’ve made.

Decent school and programs, but since it’s community college, the instructors all feel like they have something to prove..making even the most basic courses difficult as possible to pass. I had to teach myself most of the content in almost all the courses I’ve taken here. Seems like it’s less of the instructors teaching, and more of them just lecturing about how you need to teach yourself.

If you're looking for a great staff that cares this is the place to be. Not to mention the campus is a designated arboretum! Great value for the Money. Most classes transfer to a four year college to boot.
